As part of this year’s International Women’s Day celebration, we will be presenting How Healing Happens: Trauma, the Body, and Integrative Healing. We are excited to have three panelists who are trained to work with individuals recovering from trauma. We’d like to take a moment to introduce you to our three panelists; Laurie Monroe MSW, Ellen Searle Lebel MFT, and Jacqueline Mayrand MFT.

laurieLaurie Monroe MSW, LCSW holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Anthropology from Humboldt State University, a Master’s of Social Work with an emphasis in Child and Family Services from Sacramento State University, and is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. Laurie is a psychotherapist in private practice in Eureka, California. Her theoretical orientation is eclectic, holistic, feminist, solution-focused, strength-based and centered on the family therapy model. Laurie believes that her role as a therapist is to assist others to increase awareness of their own power to heal, sustain, and grow in response to life challenges. Areas of specialty include: sexual abuse/assault, child abuse/neglect, domestic violence, grief and loss, divorce, PTSD, anxiety, depression, and alcohol/chemical dependency.



ellen sl _1Ellen Searle LeBel, MFT, BC-DMT, CST is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in private practice in Arcata.  She is also certified in both Dance/Movement Therapy and Sandplay Therapy®, two non-verbal approaches that help people of all ages heal from various forms of trauma. She presented dance/movement therapy methods for healing at the International Trauma Conference in 2010 and this year will offer a case study in treating trauma at …the National Conference of Sandplay Therapists of America. Ellen has also offered trainings for helping professionals and supervisors to prevent secondary traumatization. In addition to seeing individuals and couples in her private practice, Ellen is a past clinical faculty member at HSU’s Counseling and Psychological Services, offers clinical consultation to helping professionals, is a published author and teaches continuing education courses locally and elsewhere. Image 9Jacqueline Mayrand is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist working in both private practice and at the local County Mental Health psychiatric facility. She has completed the Level I training from the Sensorimotor Psychotherapy Institute in Affect Dysregulation, Survival Defenses, and Traumatic Memory (generally referred to as Sensorimotor Psychotherapy). This body based appro…ach to psychotherapy has been very effective in working with and healing trauma, and she has found it invaluable in her work. Jacqueline received her MA from the Pacifica Graduate Institute in Depth Psychology. She is originally from Montreal, Quebec and has lived in Humboldt County for over twenty years. We are excited to learn from Jacqueline!
